Please Put Them On, Takamine-san Volume 1

It was in the "new" section in my local book store and I had some sort of morbid curiosity overcome me, okay?

Alright, so loser boy goes to class with schools top student and student coucil president and over all hottest girl ever and at one point he sees her getting undressed and she can rewind time by taking off her underwear and does that to get all her perfect grades and now he can see it and also her underwear disapears when she uses her power so she needs new one all the time and now she forces loser boy to help her with that. Lewdness and nudity ensues...

The first chapter has a lot of nudity in it, spesifically breasts and then the later ones have little to none. Sure it's still lewd but it's far from the extreme that the first chapter is.

The story, aside from the time reversing powers stuff, is a fairly basic romcom were the girl is kind of mean to the guy but it's because she likes him but just can't admit it and bla bla bla. Look, you've probably seen this before. This is like the most basic anime romance setup ever, except most of the time it's wrapped up in some bigger plot but here, this is all you get.

Now, I know that this is very personal taste based, but I'm not a fan of that sort of dynamic and if this is all this series has to offer then I'll probably drop it, but I've only gotten started and want to at least finish the first volume since I already have it.

I'll update this once I'm finished with it.

Update:

So... I've finished it. Later chapters did get a bit better. Their relationship developes a bit more and she becomes a bit more affectionate and less mean (though that's still the exception) which is nice. Still, to me it wasn't enough to save the thing. It's simple, does nothing special or novel with its tropes and the time travel aspect only really serves to create awkward and lewd situations but never plays into the plot in a interesting. The characters, of which there are only the two leads, are both bland and one dimenrional which is a bit ironic since the book really likes to say that Takamine shows different sides at different times. We never get to see the main duo interact with anyone else much so there is no chance to see what they would be like outside of their interactions. Shirota is a bland self insert main character and has little to no agency. The last chapter of the book was the best to me since the storyline changes how their dynamic works a bt and it has the most character development (if you can even call it that) out of everything. Still, the story here is nothing you can't find done better in other titles.

The art is good. It is clean, clear and detailed and I couldn't really ask for anything more. The characters are expressive though Shirotas design is bland and unimaginative (as I've said, bland self insert character) while Takamine gets all the focus and all the detail. The lewd scenes are drawn well though they suffer from the usual overly fetishized way that a lot of ecchi is drawn. Consequently it blends in with a lot of other works in the genre.

Finally, a personal gripe and something I've noticed while reading this. While the nudity and sexuality in the book might indicate that it is made for older audiences I find that, as my own school years slowly move further into my past, I grow more and more uncomfortable with works like this. In part it's due to a lack of relatebility, but mostly it's because I don't want to see teenagers naked. This manga makes it even worse to me as it specefies that the main characters are 17 and while I know the "cultural differences" and "it's just fiction" arguments I still can't help myself but feel uncomfortable about it.

With all that said, I won't be coming back to this title in the future nor do I have much interest in anything similar for all the reasons I said above. I hope you could enjoy my somewhat more rambley review here.
