Dinosaur Sanctuary Volume 1 (2022)

Combining the premise of dinosaurs having survived on a remote island รก la The Lost World and some of the scifi and dino park of Jurassic Park, Dinosaur Sanctuary is a lot of fun. W>e follow the protagonist as she starts a new job taking care of dinosaurs in a small and somewhat run down dinosaur zoo. It's a lot of fun and each chapter brings something new and exciting with it.

The books biggest strength for a dino nerd like myself is how beautifully the animals are portraied. The dinosaurs all feel like real animals. They can be violent, calm, stressed and especially cute, and the artwork shows all of that perfectly. The depictions are also all scientifically up to date (at least for when they were published, though none of them seem off by todays standards) and the author has worked with a paleontologist to make sure of that. Each chapter also has a small addendum after the main story where said paleontologist gets to explain a little more about the animals that were shown off, and it is always a great read.

Over all, Dinosaur Sanctuary is a great read and beautifully illustrated. Unfortionately I couldn't manage to get my hands on a physical copy of the first volume, but the second and third are already on my shelf and are waiting to be read (and I hope to get the first one eventually to have a finished collection).

On another note: this is the first manga I have ever read and I feel that it was a great entry point for me. The medium had always seemed a bit foreign to me (I mean, I'm not japanese so I guess that makes sense) and getting used to essentioally reading a comic in reversed was... interesting, but well worth it in the end. And as you may be able to tell by my list of books I plan to read, I've become a bit of a fan (I've already liked comics, so it's not that much of a surprise)
